History of the Peterborough Wolverines Football Club
In 2010, a group of small group of people who were dedicated to growing youth tackle football in Peterborough and the Kawarthas, got together to form the Peterborough Wolverines Football Club. The Club was initially a part of the Ontario Football Conference, a division of Football Canada.
This new club grew out of a youth tackle football houseleague that had been runing successfully in Peterborough since 1980. In 2011, the Club fielded their first team in the Bantam Division, catering to youth aged 12-14 years. The success of this inaugural season paved the way for the addition of a Junior Varsity Division team in 2012, for players aged 15-16 years. Building on that momentum, the Club added a Senior Varsity Division team in 2013, providing an opportunity for 17-19 year olds to showcase their skills. The club experienced several victories in these divisions, winning provincial championships, with the most recent one being the JV team in 2017.
Coming out of COVID, the Ontario Football Club amalgamated with the Ontario Provincial Football League, to become the Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) that the Peterborough Wolverines now compete in. Additionally, at this time, the Club added 2 new teams, and under Football Canada's Roadmap of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD), the age-divisions were renamed from Atom, Pee-Wee, Bantam, Jr Varsity and Varsity; to U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18.
In 2023 and 2024, our U10 team brought home the Sandy Ruckstal Championships, making them the first age dvision in the history of the Wolverines to successfully defend a title!
The Peterborough Wolverines Football Club continues to provide competetive-level tackle football opportunities for athletes who want to improve their skills and character.
