Wolverines Results Week #9

The Peterborough Wolverines finished their OFC regular season on Saturday when they hosted the Oshawa Hawkeyes in a triple header at the TAS Field. The Wolverines were able to win two of the three games. The Bantams lost to a very strong Hawkeye’s squad 21-12 while the Jr. Varsity and Sr. Varsity Wolverines were victorious with respective 24-6 and 15-0 wins. The Results of this weekend have confirmed that two of the Wolverines squads have qualified for the OFC playoffs which begin this coming weekend. The top four seeds in each division qualify for the playoffs.

 The Bantams lost to a very strong Hawkeyes team 21-12, but the Wolverines were able to maintain their fourth place finish and will now prepare to travel to Scarborough to face the Thunder in the first round of the playoffs this weekend. The Jr. Varsity Wolverines continued their drive to do well in the playoffs with a convincing 24-6 victory over the Hawkeyes to finish in third place and will travel to Etobicoke this weekend to face the #2 seed Eagles. Congratulations to both Wolverines squads.

The Wolverines Sr. Varsity squad ended their season with a convincing 15-0 win over the Hawkeyes, however, with their win they ended up in fifth place and just out of the four team playoff format. It was a very challenging season for the Sr. Wolverines and they were involved in several close contests.
They ended their season on a two game winning streak and finishing with a 3-5 record. The Wolverines defense was dominate and with a great punt return of 60 yards by Sam Rumleski for a TD and a single TD by Kyle Milburn they were able to enjoy this final victory. Trent Rowe was successful on two convert kicks and Silas Hubert scored a single on a long punt into the end zone.

The Bantams played well and forced the Hawkeyes to come back late in the game to overcome a Wolverines 12 to 7 lead to score late in the game to escape with their 21-12 victory. Scoring for the Wolverines were Mackenzie Reid who open the second half with a thrilling 75 yard kickoff return for a TD and the other TD was scored by Nate Thomson. The Bantams finish at 3-5 and with a fourth place seed for the playoffs. They will now face the first place Scarborough Thunder. The details of their game have yet to be announced

The Wolverines Jr. Varsity Team was able to handle the Hawkeyes for the second time this season with their convincing 24-6 win. The game started with neither team being able to take advantage of great field positioning near their opponents goal line early until the Wolverines were able to take charge and score 17 points in the second quarter for a 17-0 lead at the half. The Hawkeyes were able to score a TD in the second half, but the Wolverines closed out the game with their final TD to record the 24-6 win. Scoring for the Wolverines with TD’s were Brett Bjorgan with two and Hayden Mcilmoyle with a single TD. Hayden also converted three convert kicks and recorded a 25 yard Field Goal. The Wolverines with a 5-3 record and a third place finish will now face the second place Etobicoke Eagles. The playoff game with the Eagles is set for this Saturday July 20th with an 11 am kickoff at the Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke.
