The Peterborough Wolverines faced another challenging week end in OFC action on Saturday. The Wolverines Bantams and Jr. Varsity teams travelled to Brampton to face the Bulldogs and the Sr. Varsity Wolverines made their longest trip of the season to Cornwall to take on the Wildcats. In Brampton both the Bantams and Jr. Varsity squads ran into two determined Bulldogs teams who were able to escape with victories over the Wolverines. The Wolverines Bantams lost 26-14 and the Jr. Varsity Wolverines also lost 27-15. In Cornwall the Sr. Varsity team was shut out by the Wildcats 22-0.
The games in Brampton were both close and hard fought with all teams being fairly even in strength.
Both Wolverines teams were able to score early and had a 7-6 lead at the half in their respective games, but the Bulldogs were able to make adjustments during the half time break and came out with a very aggressive approach. Both Bulldogs teams were able to outscore the Wolverines 21-7 in the second half of both games to seal their victories. The final scores were the Bulldog Bantams winning 26-14 and the Bulldogs Jr. Varsity winning 27-17 over the Wolverines.
Scoring for the Wolverines Bantams were Ryan Forsyth and Thomas Darling with single touchdowns and Tristen Ross was successful on two convert kicks. Scoring for the Wolverines Jr. Varsity were Brett Bjorgan and Daniel Corrigal with single touchdowns and Hayden Mcilmoyle had two convert kicks and a single.
The Sr. Varsity game was a tough struggle for the Wolverines who were shut out by a well prepared Wildcats squad. It was another hard fought game that put a lot of pressure on the Wolverines defense to keep the game under control to allow the Wolverines Offense to generate scoring opportunities, however, with penalties and a determined Wildcat defense those opportunities didn’t materialize leading to the Wildcats 22-0 shutout of the Wolverines.
The Wolverines records after 4 weeks are now, The Bantams at 2-2, the Jr. Varsity at 1-2 and the Sr. Varsity at 0-3. All three teams have another big challenge this coming Saturday as they will travel to the Clarington Fields in Bowmanville to battle the Oshawa Hawkeyes with the Bantam game at 1:30 pm, the Jr. Varsity contest at 4 pm and the Sr. Varsity nightcap at 6:30 pm.
