The Peterborough Wolverines Bantam Football team opened their 2019 OFC season on Sunday in Barrie when they defeated the Huronia Stallions 38-0. It was a great start for the young Wolverines.
The game actually started badly for the Wolverines with a costly penalty on the opening kickoff when they lost valuable yardage on the kickoff return. They next fumbled the ball giving the Stallions great field position and they started marching down the field toward the Wolverines goal line. The Wolverines defense caused a fumble at that point and took control of the football at their own 2 yard line.
The Wolverines then came to life and traveled the length of the field to score their first TD just into the start of the second quarter. The Wolverines took control of the game from that point and continued to play both great offense and exceptional defense building their lead to 19-0 at the half. The second half was all Wolverines leading to the final 38-0 score. Scoring for the Wolverines were Ryan Forsyth with 3 TD’s and single TD’s by Xavier Parmiter, Nate Thomson and Tristen Ross. Aiden Vesnaver was successful on two convert kicks.
The Bantams will open their home schedule this Saturday May 25th when they host the Scarborough Thunder in a 1 pm game at the TASS Field. Both the Wolverines Jr. and Sr. Varsity squads who had Byes this past weekend will begin their OFC season on Saturday when they both will travel to Etobicoke to face the Eagles with the Jr. Varsity game at 3 pm followed by the Sr. Varsity game at 5:30 pm. The games will be played at the Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke.
