Wolverines Battle For First Place
In the Jr. Varsity contest the Wolverines were impressive in their 36-20 win over the Gladiators and improving their record to 3-0 and holding onto their first place position in the division. The Wolverines started strong and lead 29-0 into the fourth quarter. The Gladiators scored all of their points late in the game. Scoring for the Wolverines were Kyle Milburn with 3 TD’s, Mack McFarlane and Blaine Stevenson with one TD each. Matt Emrich scored a single off a punt and Spencer Vesnaver was successful on 5 covert kicks. The Wolverines will face the Gladiators again in two weeks.
In the Sr. Varsity game the Wolverines were able to handle last year’s conference champs in their hard fought 32-14 victory. They are now 3-0 and share the conference lead and will prepare for the showdown this week with Huronia. The Wolverines played great defense building a 24-8 lead at the half and were able to hold on for the 32-14 final score. The passing attach of QB Ryan Astrom continued as he was successful on 3 TD pass plays. The Wolverines defense was again outstanding and were able to hold the high scoring Gladiators to a low of 14 points. Scoring for the Wolverines were Branden O’Brien and Hayden Bruce with 2 TD’s each and Hayden also had a great day kicking 4 converts and recording 4 single points. This was truly a great win for the Wolverines.
The Bantams started strong in their battle against the North Halton Crimson Tide and lead 32-19 into the third quarter, however, the Tide were able to fight back and overtake the Wolverines and hold onto their 40-32 win. This was a tough loss for the young Wolverines and now they will prepare for the Huronia game this week. Scoring for the Wolverines were Jamie Hubble with 3 TD’s and single TD’s by Carson Harvey and Brett Bjorgan. Hayden Mcllmoyle converted 2 convert kicks.
This Saturday June 17th the Wolverines will be hosting the Huronia Stallions from Barrie for a triple header at the TASS Field. The Wolverines and Stallions are top contenders in all three divisions for their respective conference championships. This Saturday will also be the second battle for the “Cottage Cup” which the Wolverines captured last year in its first year of competition. The Bantams start the games at 11 am, followed by the Jr. Varsity at 2 pm and finishing the day with the Sr. Varsity game at 5 pm. This should be a very exciting day of football!
